We bought an RD engine, the raised spot on the block where I thought it should be stamped with the size is perfectly smooth, no numbers at all. Is there any way to determine the size short of taking the head off and measuring bore and stroke. It does have the 4-barrel carb.

If you're absolutely sure the 4-barrel carb and intake are factory, it's for sure a 501...because that's the only RD engine that got a 4-barrel from the factory.

After all these years, though, it's hard to be sure it's 100% original.

Bring the cast numbers to Princeton n bobby birdsong can tell ya , I have one like it n was told it's a replacement blk and he asked me for cast numbers , hope it helps
