I think this subject has been beat to death but how big of a sleeve can you put in a 226 block without boring the block? I would like to go 4.25

You are safe at 4.25 or 4.28. Both common BB chev sizes. You could go 4.310 but the sleve gets thin going through the bottom counterbore which is 4.475" if my memory is correct.

Usually the fel-pro or other gaskets for the 4 1/8 bore kits will rin out of room at 4.25 bore

I machine sleves as large as possiable to fit through the top counterrbore and lightly press fit in the bottom counterbore with no o-ring grove and have sleves, rods, etc on hand. I'll put a picture up of the stuff here when I get to the shop and could give you the dimensions to make your own.

I think the jd sleeve that requires the least amount of work specs out like this if I remember correctly Bore 4 1/4 flange od 5.125 width .253 sleeve pilot od 4.876 barrel 4.8125 seal 4.628 9.125 long with a fire wall of.04. Its been a while .i use custom blanks now

Or use the sleeves you have and bore to the 2inch compression height 1 inch piston pin 4.188 bore mopar piston works well with 5 3/4 stroke and the buda rod.

i've got the buda rods... actually they are d19 rods. planned on offset grinding crank to 2" and using jd sleeves to get me to 4.25 bore
