Have a buddy of mine that has a 1566 with around 185hp wondering how a 2255 or g1355 would compete at around 150hp, being they"d have more weight and more gears, wondering what one would be best for plowing, pulling 5-20s in heavy black soil. Thanks for replies

I have a G1355 diesel that handles 6/18 in heavy clay sod in third direct 6"-8" deep no problem. The old fat girl weighs North of 20k in field trim. 20.8 38 loaded Fender tanks loaded 14l-16.1 loaded plus 8 weights on the rack I personally think the 1566 is out matched. This field work for hours not minutes dragging a sled. I added a 2-180 dual disc clutch , and pump cranked. The name of the game is torque. That little dt engine can be turned up but for how long?MM broad torque low rpm like a Mack.

If a 2255 made it down to 12700 pounds, they had stripped every "non-essential" part off of it to get it that far. And most likely didnt have a 2255 rear end in it either. Guys take 22 tubs and bolt them to 18 or 1955 rear ends to get rid of the planetaries and shed weight.

my 2255 is 10500 empty ---only thing stripped -cast center wheels --grill -3 point hitch--a friend has 2255 stock as mine --weight at 10,ooo-only is tires changed---

You could look up the Nebraska tractor tests and compare each tractor. They list specifications, actual scale weights ballasted and un-ballasted, observed HP, fuel economy, maximum pull, speeds, etc.

Had a 1566 never lacked power didn't like the 3spd trans mission for road travel. The 6 cylinder engines will have more torque.I would take the IH over the Moline just because of the engines.

Oliver had a plowing competition involving a 2255, 1566, a couple deeres, a Massey and I think a Allis. There was quite a bit of data in the results.

I seen it not too long ago, but I'm not sure where. Maybe one of the magazines.

5-18 rollover was designed for this model tractor.
