NAA needs jump to start.

I volt test my 6V pos ground batt and it reads 6.2. I press the starter button and get just clicks. I jump direct to starter and it starts right up. I run the tractor for an hour and get same results... tractor won't turn over without a jump.

When running, I volt test at the battery it reads 5.8... not running it reads 6.2. When I turn the ignition key on, ammeter does nadda...doesn't move. It also doesn't move much when tractor is running.. it bounces around slightly on either side of zero.

I'm not sure if the genny is bad or VR is bad....or what... any ideas?

Thanks,
Muskie

I would take the genny and VR to my auto electric for a diagnosis. I would also suspect a bad battery if it is more than a few years old.

I think I'd check the battery first; see tip # 49.

You should see 6.35 volts on a fully charged battery. 6.2 volts is about 75% charge

Are you using a digital or analog meter for your tests?

Can a faulty ammeter cause the battery not to charge? I wonder, because now my ammeter is froze at +30, whether the tractor is running or not, even when the battery is removed.

Thanks,
Muskie
