Alternator output

MF245 is running the battery down. Voltage at the battery running is 12.46. Voltage at the alternator running is the same. What should it be? Is my alternator or battery bad.

Thanks for the help.

The alternator should be putting out 13.8-14.8 volts if it's working correctly. Your battery voltage is ok, just discharged a little. What kind of alternator do you have? Internal or externally regulated? One wire or three wire?

Battery voltage not running should be 12.5 plus anything lower and the battery needs to be charged. Running battery voltage should be 13-15 volts any thing less and the alternator is not working

I would say three wire. One large to the stud connector. Then two small wires in a connector. That is where I get a reading, nothing on the large wire.

Nothing on the big wire says you have an odd problem since it should run pretty much right to the battery it self and even if the alternator is bad you should get battery voltage on it. I would make 100% sure the wire from the big stud is in fact hooked up to the battery in some way
