1020 vs 830 diesels

If you could pick one which would it be? Both in very similar condition. Had a 1020 gas for a while and liked it. Was the 1020 diesel made in Germany? I think maybe power steering was standard on the 830? That might be the deciding factor. Not sure if this 1020 has p steering. Are they pretty much identical? Thanks.

1020 and 1120 were a more deluxe tractor with closed center hydraulics.
Some of those models were produced in both Dubuque and Mannheim.

Power steering was an option on both the 1020 & 830 models. 1020's built for N American sales were built in Dubuque,Ia with Dubuque built engines. These 1020's had closed center hyd's. 830's built for N American sales were built in Mannheim with open center hyd's. Other than that the tractors are fairly similar with the 1020('65-'73) being older than 830('73-'72)

1020 has better parts support and more conventional
(for Deere) hydraulics. 1020 diesel also uses an USA
fuel-injection pump. 830 uses a Rotodiesel pump.

Last time I looked Canada, USA and Mexico are in North America.
Canada in North America was supplied from both Dubuque and Mannheim.
The later Mannheim 830's were updated to closed center hydraulics.

Thanks for the geography lesson that I pointed out to YOU a while back!!!!!!!!
JD wrote the titles for these parts catalogs not me. I can provide some more examples of the N American vs European sales PC titles if you need them.
#4132 830 Utility Tractor (North American Version) - 16May11

I'll bet you all you want to bet that you won't find a closed center hyd pump listed in this PC #4132

Now you will find CC hyd pump in this PC # 4154 - 830, 930 Tractors (European Edition) - 12May11 ( FR DE IT ES SV )

Are you positive these built for European sales tractors were sold "new in Canada" or imported/sold as used tractors as in the USA????

The Manheim 830s had engines built in Saran, France.
Those French engines were excellent 152 diesels as
compared to the USA built 152s. Deere also starting
putting the French engines in 350 crawlers also.

I have no idea why you doubt all those canadian JD dealers. From the Atlantic to Pacific coast that sold brand new Mannheim built 510,710,820,830,1020,1120,2120,3130,1640,1840 etc tractors?

I don't dispute that those models you mentioned were sold in Canada BUT I'VE NEVER BEEN TO CANADA. The only info I have to go by are the the JD parts catalogs & their titles. The 510,710,1120,2120,3130,1640,1840 etc tractors ""were not sold as new tractors"" in Texas. The 820 & 830 sold new in Texas were open center only hyd's

You should refrain from capitalizing your initials as it resembles "BAD"

If you don't have a MFWD/cab tractor to move snow with this winter as I do you must be traveling TOO MUCH!

And may I ask WHY!!!!!!!!!!!!! Being disabled limits my traveling!!!!!!!

A flat lander Texan caught in an inch of snow. Is pretty much trapped and helpless while waiting for the roads to be re-opened .

Yea but I'm prepared with MFWD truck, tractor & chains!!! What one has to look out for in Texas when it rarely snows is the "other idiot drivers" that drive like there's ZERO precipitation while I just slowly putter along. As much as I hate snow I'd take some to kill the grasshoppers & army worms.

Your 4255 is 2WD.
A four wheel drive truck has more wrecks per mile than 2WD cars in snow. The truck rarely has snow tires . When the wide rubber in those monster mud mother tires harden in the cold. They have about as much traction as the plastic wheels on a child's toy on a hardwood floor.
The 4WD truck can't stop unless it has tall narrow snow rated tires.

I also own a Kubota M7040 MFWD,cab,FEL and I didn't even have to get a "woman's permission" to buy it unlike some people I know!!!!!!!!!! Plus in my mind 4WD on a PU is only good to get out of a ditch or started moving up an incline not drive full time on ice/snow. As far as hard tires bleach will help get traction.

Tx Jim....would like if you could come to Canada to visit (maybe better if I went there?) We are not all as "abrasive" as some.
Have lived 52 winters here, driving in the last 45 of them. I always smile when people discuss getting around in winter weather. The biggest issue I have with winter driving is the ability to SEE.
To mimic the conditions one can put a regular bedsheet across the windshield of your favourite vehicle and go for a drive around the farm. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DO THIS ON PUBLIC ROADS!
What in the heck has this got to do with the original topic?? Nothing! I fell into a trap.
If you can come to Canada come during a month that doesn't have an "R" in its name

This rivalry started between Glen(b&d) & I several years back when he was non stop trying to convince posters that inquired about a pre-owned JD tractor to buy a new JD tractor that wouldn't break down( YEA RIGHT). Of course he didn't own a NEW MFWD tractor so as Paul Harvey stated "now you know the rest of the story". After all this site is named Yesterday's Tractors not Today's New fangled electronic Tractors.
Morale to the story is just ignore his & my conflabs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please forgive me for the OFF TOPIC as it's all in FUN.
