NH 1010 Bale Wagon Cables

Does anyone know how tight the cables on the rolling rack should be? I can not find anything in the book that shows or says how they should be adjusted. The cable on the rear of the rack keeps jumping off the pulley so I am thinking something is out of adjustment.

Something else is wrong. The cable is on a spring. If it's tight/snug, it's ok. Make sure nothing is bent, bound up,dragging,or just in need of lubrication. On my old 1032 the spring is o worn/weak it will not pull the load rack tinesup any more.I have to manually get off and push it up to home after every dump. But it has never jumped off the pulleys.

Ok, there is no spring on the cable anywhere, where is said spring supposed to be? I have looked at parts schematics, it shows 2 springs, but the notes say only on the 1000 model.
I was thinking there should be a spring somewhere would only make sense.

my 1012 doesnt have spring either.. see attached... what I did was loosen the cable, bring the "forks" up to the front all the way till they tipped forward but yet not to where they hit the front frame.. I put a comalong on the cable and pulled it tight then attached the cable clamp.. it worked...

Both cables are pretty tight I can lift them off the track about 1/4 to 1/2.. kinda figure treat them like belt..

1130... i put comalongs on my cables (where the little end comes through to join the long end in the clamp) clamped vic-grip on the short end and pulled with comalong till tight.. by the time I install cable clamp and let the comalong loose the cable regains some slack..

FYI how old are your cables... I replaced mine this year with new.. inexpensive to do and guarantees that part working without breaking..

New to my 1012 but so far loving it..

I wonder if it would work or help to put a heavy spring on that hook then clamp the cable to the end of the spring? The heavy cable is in good shape, the thin one I replaced last year maybe the year before? I did not notice how loose the bigger cable was before.

you'd have to use a really stiff spring... i would think..dont know what that would do to be honest.. youll have to let the rest of us know..always looking for improvements..one I did was to add a wheel on the pickup to keep it from banging ground at times.. works good.... also have hyd pickup instead of the large twisty belt pickup..but adds hyd hoses for tractor hookup.. 1012 has own hyd pump system.. dont know how yours runs...

1010 doesn't use a return spring system, just hyd. cylinder, cable and pulleys I have an operators manual but it doesn't give any info on the hay rack cable tension, we replace ours and adjusted then so that there was very little slack in the cables, as one pulls the rack forward the other acts as the tensioner, check your pulley shafts for wear allowing them to wobble side to side to much, another over looked problem if the cable has been damage causing it to curl or has kinks in it, it won't stay on the pulleys, also when installing a new cable try to install it with the normal lay of the cable wrapping around the pulleys if possible that way the cable will track the pulleys better.

I have two 1010 wagons. I adjust the big forward cable to bring the rake to the front all the way without any tension. Maybe back just an inch or two. The rear cable should not have any slack but doesn't need to be tight. No springs just the cables. Check the front and rear pulleys, make sure they can turn.

Got the cables adjusted, and figured out I had the smaller cable attached at the rear of the rolling rack should be to the front. However, found new problem. Rolling rack will retract normally, will not come up to the front, acts like no hydraulic pressure, has plenty going back, not forward. I did just replace 5 hydraulic lines, one was to the front single bale unload motor, could it be i have an air lock? If so, how would I bleed it.

Finally got 3 loads of 2nd cutting done and in the barn this weekend, the bale wagon is working great again, thanks to all for the comments and suggestions.
