Just bought another Case 444

Serial Number 14039621, what year would that be? It came with a mower so I mowed the lawn yesterday and learned that the mower needed a lot of adjustment. Took care of that today. It appears that I have another project for this winter. You know the little caps they put over grease fittings that you remove and throw away, well this tractor still had it on the axle pivot pin and the wobble in the axle confirms it's never been greased. Good thing I have a nice warm garage to work in this winter.
 
You aern't the only one. The CUB I bought was most likely never serviced. It took me several months of on and off tinkering to get everything to normal. All of the oils and fluids, little adjustments here and there, gas tank and carb was a mess. Ticks you off when just basic maintainence is not done. I caught up 1977 to 2015 years worth of fix it.
 
I know what you mean, but then a person has to stop and think. If not for people who cant figure out what we know,,where would our "gems" come from?? LOL.

And it doesn't just include their lawnmowers. My daugter's boyfriend asked me if I would look at his 2013 Chevy 3/4 ton Duramax. "it just isn't running like it once did" Long story short, he has NEVER changed the oil,,, at 85,000 miles.
50 grand pick up that isn't half paid for and engine is trash,, "dad told me that diesels don't need oil changes"

Told the daughter she might want to move to green pastures, meaning boyfriend wise
 
I have a number of those caps floating around my shop.. and funny that you mention it, most of them came off the front axle pivot pins.. Case must have hid that fitting quite well Eh???

WOW, 85,000 miles on original oil?? did he know to check it at least???

Yessir, 85K miles. Truck was sick, real sick. Last I knew it was sitting in his yard not running and he is still making payments.
