I was thinking of buying a ford 2600. Do they have a decent reputation of being reliable? And would parts be fairly available and easy to find for them? It is a 1974 model if it makes a difference.

They are a very good, reliable tractor. But with any machine that age, check it over first... things do wear.
The x600 series were built from '76 through '81... so it isn't a '74. Find the unit number, either on the foil tag under the hood,
or on the bellhousing, just above and to the rear of the starter, and we can tell you exactly when it was built.

Alright thanks, would parts be fairly easy to find? I just don't want to buy something that parts are impossible to come by when things break.

Very easy to get parts... your local New Holland
dealer, ebay, this site. Great parts commonality with
other models, making parts both more available and
cheaper.

Great. Is there any common things that wear out on them? A local city owned it for mowing. The body has some dings, but there doesn't seem to be any major leaks.

I believe if it's a 3 cyl. 2600 the serial # is located on the flat horizontal surface on the right hand side of the tractor on the opposite side of the
starter,it will probably start with C.I overhauled the neighbors 2600 about 3 years ago, very nice tractor and yes parts are relatively cheap compared to a John
Deere and a good reliable tractor.

The x600 series tractors were actually sold from '75-'81. It is possible that it is a very early one that was made in late 1974 as a 1975 model year tractor. Serial number and unit number combination would tell for sure.
