My grandfather is working on his TO20 steering that has worked hard all its life and is now worn out. We got the new steering rod with bearings but to replace the steering shaft but need some help with the steering arms. As you can see in the pictures the bushings are worn out and the seals gone. Same on both arms. Any help is greatly appreciated.

By the way this tractor has worn many hats throughout its life. Had a Ferguson loader on it at one time and we still have the cement mixer for it. It also has the Sherman cable step up transmission. It currently mows grass with a Woods 3pt on the back.

To do this right you need to remove the steering box from the tractor. The bottom has a plate that you take off to expose everything and then you can get at the bushings and service the seals. I did this job on my TO30 about ten years ago,not really that hard. I don't know if you can get the lower gasket, but, one can easily be made from a sheet of gasket material. I would recommend a parts book and service manual too to do it right.

I resealed mine with Gray RTV. Gray is what the auto manufactures use on oil and trans pans. I also filled it with NGLI 00 grease AKA, JD Cornhead grease. Also added a 1/4 X 20 tap hole to the top of the column to install a grease zerk on top after getting the proper spring and seals to install on the top of the column. Just an occasional shot of grease to keep the top bearing happy. NGLI 00 grease also wont leak out such as 90W does.

I do have a few of the bottom gaskets still available. $10.00 shipped. Mail box is open on the classic site, at least.

Thank you for the replies everyone. He buttoned her all back up. We'll see how he likes it. If its still too sloppy for his mowing then we will put your guys tips to good use.
