140 was a 1 plow tractor but I see them with 2 14" plows , a 240 was a 2 plow tractor and 2 14" plows is about all it wants . What can a 340 and a 460 both gas handle , trailer or 2 point ? Just curious.

Dad had a 460 gas and pulled a 3x16" trailer plow in pretty easy plowing soil. Also had a Super C when I was a kid and we had a 2x14" Fast Hitch plow for that... not a problem pulling that in the same soil. HP on a 460 is essentially the same as a Super M and you have the advantage of a TA.

I have a Farmall 340 Diesel which will have 2 14s behind it. It will be for show and for plow days. No sense in pulling the guts out of these older tractors; I don't need to show off that bad. When growing up Dad had a 560 diesel, which ended up with a turbo on it, and 5 bottom plow behind it. That was too much in our hard plowing clay. But he wanted the biggest and you ended up using the TA lever a lot. Oh well, still good memories.

The 2-bottom plow for a 140 would be 2-12", as I recall.

I think IH said a 340 was a 3-plow tractor, and a 460 a 4-plow (14" bottoms). That was mounted or semi-mounted so the draft of the plow could be used to improve traction.

Realistically you need some pretty nice ground to be able to pull that much plow with those tractors. I know on the home farm there is NO way you could pull 4 bottoms with a 460, and it's actually too much plow for a 560.

Like WES says, there is no sense in pulling the guts out of these old tractors. Most old tractor plowing is done for fun these days. Even if you are doing it for money, you may be ahead by pulling 1 less bottom at a higher speed and reducing the strain on your tractor's old bones.

My 350 would be about about in between a 340 and 460 in power and weight. In our tough gumbo my 2-14 #39 roll-over is all it can handle but I like to plow fairly deep, around 8-10 inches. The 350 was advertised as a 3-plow tractor and I'm sure it could handle this size plow in more normal conditions. Soil type and desired operating depth just make a huge difference when it comes to matching a plow to a tractor.

This is very helpful I don't wont to kill what is
left of my old tractors, nobody commented on trailer
or 2point ??? I don't have and won't to get the best
, easiest , most dummy proof if this fits one

Generally a mounted plow will pull better than a pull type, but the early IH Fast Hitch did not have the best of "draft control" systems, and the smaller ones like the SC thru 200 or 230 did not have any at all. Still you do get some weight transfer from the plow to the tractor.
