Farmall H shift knob......

Do they make a knob for the shifter with the "shift pattern" on the knob? I don't see one. Maybe that's not "original" ? Thanks.

There has never been a shift knob other than the rubber one, except for the cast iron version used during the war years. Shift pattern is on a decal, originally placed on the fuel tank, but many have placed that decal on the headlight bar.

ok....just wondered how it was set up- mine is "cast iron" so will just paint knob black and get decal....thanks guys.

I believe the end of the gear shift had a coating of rubber on it. Most gear shifts are now missing the rubber. In 1943 they had a steal knob instead of the rubber. I think this was only in 43. I know my 42 does not have a knob. There was no gear pattern on the knob. Just an ihc logo stamped on it. Gear shift pattern was on a decal on the gas tank viewable from drivers seat.

to add ,...ihc used that shift pattern since 1939 on those old tractors right up to the 660 in 1963. just an automatic reaction for me to find gears.

I can't find a picture anywhere but I think the 656,666, and 686 gear drive had the shift pattern on the shift knob which is still the same as all the H,M, Supers and 300/350/400/450/460/560's. Right lever is the one you want the knob off of, left said Hi & Lo for TA. Not sure how it attaches, might slip on, might be threaded.

I've seen the shift pattern decal on the light bar lots of times. But I knew the shift pattern before I started to school in 1st grade.

I agree with shift pattern by my third grade. Pedals on a 350 were just a little toooo far. Or maybe my little seat at the time didn't fit a big seat. Today you can use a magic marker if you are frugal. When I jump on my CUB, 300U, Gravely Commercial 10A, Husqvarna GT 2254, Johnny Deere 160 lawn tractor, Cub Cadet, 105, 1941 Chevvy 1/2ton pickup, it is just automatic. Scarry aint it ??? Forgot the Model AA dump truck. Hold on....hasn't run in years since my dad broke the carb. The Caterpillar Fifteen. You hand crank that baby.

The cast iron gear knob was standard in Australia on Farmall M and Farmall AM tractors. Part number was 9 637 D.

Knob was red from factory, along with carb, radiator, starter, generator and wiring harness. The tractors were painted assembled then hood tank and rim and tires installed.

That may be correct placement for decal but is had to see for some people because light bar and toolbox get in way of sight. I found it easier to read if mounted like this on light bar.

Ditto. I have two H's and an M, and when I get on my D19 Allis I have to think 'cause reverse is on the other end of the shift pattern.

All of mine have the shift decal on the light bar. The H that I grew up on also had it on the light bar. May not have been original because Dad took advantage of the factory sponsored repaint programs, but that is where I remember it being.
