john deere dozer 850 series

I would suggest getting an infrared thermometer ($30 at Harbor Freight) and start shooting different areas to determine where the temp is being
generated. If it has an external cooler, shoot it, both top and bottom. Work back from there.

850 actually has TWO transmissions so as the other poster says first determine where the heat is coming from. Also has a splitter box there under the das that can go bad. Things to do, check the fluid level, change the filters, cut open the old filters and look for metal determine if it is aluminum or copper, Clean the radiator and oil cooler they are bad to get plugged. The longer you run it heating the larger the repair bill.

Make sure the cooler isn't plugged. Then trace the big hoses leaving the trans. pumps to the cooler bypass valve. If the hose on the cooler side of the valve is a lot cooler, the bypass valve could be the problem. Make sure the temp. gauge isn't wrong first.
